We are saddened to hear the news that Jack Lawton passed away on 6 November 2025 at the age of 89. Jack was Chairman of the Guildhouse Trustees from 2004 until 2006 and, thereafter, he was appointed Honorary Vice President. Sheila Winterton (Centre Manager 2000 – 2007) expressed the gratitude of the Guildhouse for Jack’s significant contribution:
Ensuring everyone could benefit
Jack Lawton was a firm supporter of life at the Guildhouse and was keen to ensure that all students, whatever their needs, could benefit from every opportunity on offer. He was particularly pleased to hear that, in 2021, a lift had been installed allowing access to all rooms on the upper floors.
Involving the family
Involvement in Guildhouse activities was a family affair as his wife, Sue, organised the hugely popular Pleasant Pastimes group every Tuesday afternoon for a number of years. We are grateful that their contribution has helped to shape the Guildhouse as we know it today.
